Trouble sending email while abroad?

I'm having trouble sending email through my email client while abroad. I won't connect to the server to send mail. I can receive no problem.

Could this be a problem with my email settings or with the network I'm connected to?

Can you connect to mail.blacknight.com via telnet on port 25?

If you can't, then it's the network that won't let you connect

No, it's timing out, saying unable to connect.

Probably port 25 is blocked. Change SMTP (outgoing) port to be 587 and it should work.

Actually, I'm in Canada so I've just added a new server... smtp.telus.net

That's done the job.
