Question Domain Templates

Just getting to grips with my VPS, I initially created a “Domain Template” in Plesk and then added the domain as recommended via the Blacknight CP. I expected to see my domain template in the Blacknight CP (Add new domain/”Hosting dropdown”) but it was not there – it simply says “none” on the hosting dropdown. Assuming then that a domain template is applied AFTER the domain is added I went back to Plesk but couldn’t find a place to apply a domain template to a particular domain.

How or where are domain templates used?

Is this a Windows or Linux Plesk VPS?

I'll see if I can get one of the technical team to reply to you on Monday - sorry about the delay

Thank you Michele. It's Thursday and still no reply. All I'm looking for is a one liner reply from someone who actually knows hows domain templates are used in practice.

MYSTERION

I'm only new to VPS so I'm not what you call skilled but I can tell you what I do with my clients and domains.

I create a client template that has everything unlimited.
I then create a Domain Template with the limits attached to that. For example 200mb web space, 30 email addresses and so on.

The reason I do it this way is because I want to allow customers to have more then one domain (2-3 domains is not unusual nowadays)

Once I have both templates created I the go to
DESKTOP>Create a Domain

Click next to the customer you want to attach the domain to then click NEXT
You can then enter the domain name in the box provided and select your domain template.

After that its just a case of selecting the hosting and so on.

The customer options must be set to unlimited or you will get conflicts with your client and domain templates.

For example if you set your customer to 100mb and you want to give them 200mb on the domain then you will get an error.

I hope this is what you are looking for.

Thank you for taking the time to reply newebirl. I understand the process as you outlined it but Blacknight advise adding domains through the blacknight CP and NOT Plesk (for DNS reasons). If you add a domain through the CP however you sebsequently don't have the ability to assign a domain template in Plesk. If you add the domain directly via Plesk you (apparantly) will have DNS issues. I assume you haven't encountered these issues?

Any input from Blacknight staff would be welcomed here. With the CP tie-in complication, the Parallels documentation isn't really relevant from what I can see.

This is what I did with my registrations or transfers.

Register/Transfer the domain in the cp.blacknight control panel. I register the domain as hosting: parking and enable DNS editing.

Then create a domain (adding it to a client) on my VPS. (DESKTOP> ADD NEW DOMAIN)

Once thats done I then edit/add the DNS enteries on cp.blacknight to point to my VPS IP

I have 6 domains so far (only set-up the VPS about 3 weeks ago) and all are working perfect with this exception of one but that's a different issue.

The only thing on my VPS thats not working is Horde.

forgot to mention:
When you do it this way you can then select the domain template for the domain.
