Default VPS & web mail

Hi, Just close to taking a VPS package but still a few questions, well one for now to see response time!

On the vps, is there an inbuilt (through plesk cp) webmail feature such as in the shared hosting? I am used to providing atmail webmail for clients at present so I need something like that.

Thanks Michelle,
Very grateful for your quick response.. so it is just not me that cares about their business outside office hours! lol

I spoke to your sales guys a couple of times today while I am deciding and they were very helpful on both contacts. I have a number of sites I designed hosted in the US and only until recently has it seemed viable to transfer them home, us pricing being so much cheaper... I have been researching a lot.. and have seen a good overall support for your service.

VPS is new to me but I think will push me to another level, it is a little confusing but I will give it a go, have a few of my own sites to develop so any issues will emerge shortly and hopefully will be resolved in that stage and then I can consider migrating other sites from elsewhere.

Look forward to doing business with you

Regards
Neil

Default ASP components

Another quick question.. on the vps plesk system are there asp components pre-installed? If not are the main ones available to install at need or do they need to be sourced separately?

I currently use asp components such as aspemail, persits asp upload etc for various websites and need to know if these are available. I know some of the standard ones installed on shared hosting are free from the source but others would need to be purchased and that would add quite a bit to the cost of a vps if needed to be bought.

I'll have to get one of our technical staff to look into this for you

Default Joined but intial problem

Well I joined a vps package altho I had no response to my asp question here or via support, I suppose the weekend was fats approcahing.

Anyway, new to this but somewhat confused so far. Managed to access the cp, plesk and also the vps by remote desktop but have problems with adding a domain. Mindful of all I have read here I understand NOT to add a domain in pleck but to first add within the main cp as advised.

When I do that, first adding the domain name, with dns servers external, the green button says synced.
Then selecting it and adding hosting it goes in very long process of adding and always fails to add, and all sync including what was there before is gone.

What does the first sync mean? If at that stage I go to flesk there is no sign of the domain. I can't find any documentation about this.

The test I am doing now is an existing domain, before trying this I updated the registrar to point to blacknight nameservers in case that was needed before adding a domain name.

Any advice would be welcome, been at this a while. Tomorrow will call support if not fixed by then and I am sure it must be a very simple thing I am doing wrong, a bit more clear documentation for first time users would probably be helpful.

I did not realise that Michele, since it is listed under 'technical support/vps hosting' it did actually seem to be reasonable to ask for help here.

I do understand that technical support from your staff will not necessarily be available during the weekend but in many forums in my experience, it is also true that other users may have had a similar problem to that raised, such as this. In which case it is often possible to find a solution from another user and this is not just useful to myself, in this instance, but being a forum it can actually build up a useful informal faq/solutions base in its own right.

If that is not the intention or desire here then ok. For myself, should I stay with BK I would be happy to lend my own experiences of issues, as I overcome them, to others.

In this case I am sure it is something really simple I am doing wrong, not any fault with your system, and an old hand at this would put me right very quickly.

Hi Neil,

A few questions/points to note.

1) did you delete the "My Domains" client from Plesk?
2) I see two domains in your cp.blacknight.com on your vps and both appear in Plesk, what is the issue here?
3) I see domains in Plesk not in cp.blacknight.com, dns for these _Won't_ work on ns1.blacknight.com/ns2.blacknight.com.

Regarding "In Sync", this isn't for VPS customers to worry about, it simple means that our provisioning system doesn't know the status of the domain because the domain wasn't provisioned by it. i.e. the registration of it was handled elsewhere.

Thanks a million for replying Paul
1) I don't think I deleted 'My Domains' client as I am trying to be careful..
2) The matching domains is due to after adding the domains in the cp and the sync failing (as I thought) I then tried adding them in plesk manually as I thought that was maybe needed, they were not there after the cp action
3) After the problems I then tried to do it the other way around to see what happened, I did read the article about this but I was getting nowhere as it was

The trouble lies for me in the last point. The first domain I tried adding in the cp went into a long 'adding' cycle and then in the end flagged. 'failed to add' which indicated some problem. Before doing anything else I went to plesk to check and the domain was not present, the cp also showed a red ! and reported a problem attempting to add domain.

So basically it seemed to and reported failing to add domain. It would have been fine regardless of that if it actually had showed up in flesk. Maybe there are settings in flesk I have to alter before doing the cp thing? This is a major new thing for me so sorry if I am being stupid.. I do appreciate the support from you tho
