anyone running Magento on their VPS ?

Anyone running magento on their VPS .. what kinda load times are you getting if you are ? and which VPS are you on.

I'm currently in the process of tweaking caching / php / mysql ... trying to get the best fit. Unfortunately for me at the moment its a bit of a case of change one variable ... restart mysql ... and continue.

xcache did make a noticable performace jump so I'm quite happy with that.

I have heard good things about Magento so uploaded it to my VPS (Debian 4.0 x86) to see what it was like but didnt even get through the install before I got an error about mcrypt not being installed ... i dont have a clue to how to install mcrypt so as I didnt actually need Magento just yet, only wanted a play with it, i was not going to pay blacknight to install mcrypt.

is it any good?

Is Magento not pay-ware now.
If it is I won't be going for it.

I could never get it to work.
