Beginner in trouble

Hi

I purchased a minimus LInux package, domain and hosting.

My problem is that I have no idea what I am doing and need some help. When I go to the website I registered in firefox I keep getting a pop up box which asks me to download application/x-httpd-php. Internet Explorer is the same.

What is this about? I tried uploading an index.html file to httpdocs in my filemanager but it doesn't work. All I keep getting is this popup box to download a file. Can you help me please?
