Default filemanager

is there an easier way of uploading files using file manager?

i'm currently doing it file by file, and can't see if it's possible just to upload whole folders (or at least a few files at once), which would be a lot easier!

thanks a mil!

I *think* there's an option to upload a zip file and then extract it on the server.

There is, but it depends on which system the you have.

Did you get a linux or windows hosting package?

Default folder permissions

I'm trying to change the permissions for some folders in File manager.

Is that possible? I can't find an option for this, or a unix command line.

Hi Colm,

You can click on a file or folder and go to the option "change mode" this will allow you to set the file mode.

755 is -rwxr-xr-x for example

The "mode" as it's referred to is the number.

Thanks Paul.

Next question: how do you change the owner of a folder?

I know, you just click on the folder, choose "change owner". But I keep getting an error message:

chown: changing ownership of `/usr/local/pem/vhosts/100599/webspace/httpdocs/moodledata': Operation not permitted

What I'm trying to do is to set up a moodle site, and am following the installation instructions, but keep getting error messages all over the place.

Basically, there is a folder I need to have that is owned by, and writable by, the user that the server runs as.

I can now change the permission for the folder, thanks to Paul, but can't change the owner.

Perhaps its the way I'm doing it?

Any ideas?

Thanks again.

Colm
