Just to let you know that we now support asp.net 3.5 on our new shared hosting platform (Windows plans only - obviously!)

I'm afraid we can't do that. Although it is a quick enough install to install .net 3.5 it will revert all sites on the server to ASP.net 2 and so cause serious problems for all users of ASP.net 1.1 on the shared servers.

That's a pity. 3.5 runs off the 2.0 CLR so it should be just a matter of installing it with the extra libs going into the GAC - sites in IIS shouldn't be affected. You don't even need the option to be configurable from Helm. See Scott Hanselman's Computer Zen - How to set an IIS Application or AppPool to use ASP.NET 3.5 rather than 2.0 If there's no way to do it, is it possible to manually move from an old Windows account to the new version without losing the months already paid for? Are existing customers going to be penalised for a poor setup on the Windows boxen...? |

Hi There, The _main_ issue with installing .net 3.5 is that it'll change _all_ sites on each web server to .net 2.0. This would take some doing to rectify after the fact but the downside would be plenty of customers 1.1 sites being down. On moving, depending on your package it's possible to get a pro-rated refund for the additional time left. Note: this is not available as an option for the soho accounts on the old billing system. Basic, Standard, Professional and Enterprise can make use of this refund. The process is simple, you sign up on the new system, pay via credit card, paypal, eft etc. Once you have moved over and are happy, we cancel the old account and give you a refund <edit> to clarify, this is a credit note on your new account for the amount that can be applied to new orders and renewals</edit> for the time left. One caveat to this is, if there is less than 6 months left we don't offer a refund, the plus side is you can use both accounts if you wanted to. Paul Last edited by pkelly; 04-09-08 at 08:56 AM. |
