Just wondering, what is the current legislation regarding the registration of .IE domain names, specifically is it possible to register your own name as a .IE domain? If not, why not? And are there any forseeable plans to rectify this? |

Hi Peter, Well from what I can gather, if you trade as joe soap (have an rbn) you can register joesoap.ie Right now they don't allow people to register .ie domains for non comercial reasons. I think you could register joesoap11.ie. I'll ask Michele to follow up on this thread, as he is the person who mainly deals with the irish domain registry. Paul |

ph3n0m As Paul said, you cannot register johndoe.ie unless you are: - a sole trader who trades under that name - an artist or author - have a registered business name for that name As an individual you can apply for an IE domain under the discretionary category. This is generally more awkward than when you have an RBN, but is not impossible. If you can "stake a claim" to an IE domain that the IEDR view as legitimate, then they will grant it to you. If you are thinking of registering an IE domain like this I would recommend you email me directly or give me a call, so we can discuss it. HTH Michele |

As IE domain registrations cause some confusion for people we've added some more documentation on our site which may help: http://www.blacknight.ie/irishdomainrules.0.html http://www.blacknight.ie/irishdomainnames.0.html |
