Unhappy Will changing nameservers affect email?

Hi,

I have a hosting with another company, but I want to host with Blacknight, however there are a number of emails on the old hosting package. If I change the nameservers, will this affect my email addresses on that account?

What is the best solution in this situation?

Many thanks for any help or advice.

I am not sure if you will be able to import your email data. But once you are on new hosting you can create same email accounts and can use batter emailing system and mailing panel.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will respond, but it is possible to have the web and mail dns (the MX record) pointing at different places e.g. move the web hosting to Blacknight and keep the mail server on your old host.

However you could migrate everything to Blacknight, reuploaded the users's email using imap:

Download your email (inbox, sent, etc) from your old host. Then as Blacknight support imap:
Create an account for the user.
Set up user's email client to connect to Blacknight email account via imap
Within the email client drag emails on old hosting account into the corresponding folder on the Blacknight account, the emails will then be uploaded to Blacknight's server (whether you wish to continue using imap or use POP3).

Give Blacknight's tech support an email, Im sure they'll be able to advise you on the best approach.

Sorry none of us replied sooner

To answer the queries

You can host your website with us and keep your mail elsewhere. It would simply be a matter of pointing the MX record to the email provider

We have quite a few clients who do this either because they have their own office server, use Google Apps or want to send their email to an email filtering service (eg. http://www.antispam.ie)

As for importing mail from another provider - I *think* one or two people have done this using IMAP or SquirrelMail, though they haven't posted here with their final results - just their initial queries
