Default Setting up IMAP accounts?

How do I create a new IMAP account in the Direct Admin control panel? Do I just create a new email account as normal and then specify it as an IMAP account when adding it to my client software?

Will your servers automatically create the necessary folders? If so, what will they be so I can sync them with my client software?

You don't need to create a new email account unless you want to.

You'd simply set the email account to be accessible via IMAP in your mail client

You don't need to worry about the folders either, as your mail client will pick them up automatically (unless you're using a very odd email client!)

HTH

Michele

Thanks Michele!

No I'm just using Apple Mail so the usual folders will do (Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash). I have a Spam folder which my Anti-Spam App installed so not sure how that will sync? Also there's a Notes folder in Apple Mail. Will I need to add these to the servers to get them to sync (not too worried about the Notes folder)?

I tried switching my existing email to IMAP in Apple Mail (EDIT: found out this can't be done... you need to set-up a new IMAP account an drag and drop the emails into the respective folders) but it then tried to upload almost 2000 messages to the server folders (I think that's what it was doing anyway?) so I panicked and hit cancel

I'd like to keep all my existing messages in the Mail app but I don't want my iPhone to start downloading 2000 messages as soon as I set-up the IMAP account on that.

Any tips?

I use Mail App on both my desktop at work and my laptop.

It may take it some time to sync things up initially, but I don't think you'll have any real issues

Great, thanks! One last question... Should I be using smtp.domain.ie or just use the mail.domain.ie for the Outgoing Server?

mail.domain.tld

We don't use smtp.domain.tld, so the dns records don't exist
