If you're on windows go to start > run
In the dialog enter "cmd" (no quotes) and hit enter
This will bring up a DOS box

Then type:

ping kay.blacknight.ie

Try restarting your email software
Make sure that you haven't got any Norton or McAfee things running that might be trying to takeover your email settings.

Of course if you know your password etc., you can always go to SmarterMail Login - SmarterMail and check your mail using webmail in the interim

I have restarted my email software any number of time, I have Norton 360 installed but its all been fine up to yesterday. (no there were no updates that day) I guess I'll just have to wait until I can get phone support this is not realy a constructive use of time.

The mail servers are all working fine on our end (we'd be inundated with support queries if there were issues)

So the only thing I can suggest at this juncture is for you to check if anything has changed on your end. Try disabling Norton for example and see if that works.

Would you believe its working now I have assume it must have been an issue with my ISP that's just been sorted, as I have changed nothing here, and it was nothing to do with your end. So your service and support remains as far as I'm concerned exemplary thank you once again. I will continue to recommend Blacknight to all who enquire.
