Who ultimatly decides to award a discretionary .ie domain? I am wondering because what kind of convincing is need to register a .ie that would not necessarily be a company name, for example if I wanted to set up an advice type website and call it "opinions.ie" - what would the chances of getting the .ie be? |

The IEDR are the ones who make the decision If you have an existing registered business (either a business name or a company) you can try to use the discretionary route for domain names that are not obvious abbreviations / derivatives of the company name In the case of individuals that do not have a registered business name they would need to make a good case to the IEDR and show that it was not a commercial venture |

So basically if I am a registered business I can make money with my .ie however if the domain is awarded to me at the IEDR's discretion - you cannot make money under that domain? |

I never said that ![]() If the IEDR feels that the domain name is for a business / commercial venture they will demand a business name in support of the application. Once the domain name has been awarded to you it's a different story .......... |
