Ruby on Rails

Hi,
I have a few RoR projects coming up which I hope to host on my accounts. I was just wondering what kind of success (if any!) has anyone had in deploying to blacknight servers without using Capistrano etc.

I saw a previous post from a year ago about rake db:migrate, is there any alternatives to phpAdmin set up. There's not much of an issue only a slight issue when it comes to filling in users and passwords which are encoded in SHA1 + time of registering + salt (Just as the two Daves do in 'Agile Web Development').

Hi there John,

I'm afraid we can not actually offer Ruby on Rails anymore to new customers due to the complexities in getting an application running in a shared environment through the control panel we use.

We do plan to soon offer new packages and services that will be capable of using Ruby on Rails however we do not have any at the moment other than a dedicated solution.

Our developed is actually in the middle of the process of removing the RoR offerings from our website.

How soon do you think these new packages will be ready? (approx) I may have to go with a US RoR hosting package if it will be too long is why I ask.

Hi,

We are currently fine-tuning and testing the new control panel and packages now and hope to be able to make them available by the end of this month or the begining of April.

When we do have these new packages available we will be publishing it on our Blog (blog.blacknight.com) and our website and billing system should change drastically then too.

I had seen you were upgrading the billing process, and the control panel too?

Will RoR be supported in a similar manner to DirectAdmin or will there be better control, such as using subversion, capistrano etc.?

It's going to be a completely new system both for billing and control panels.
