As Paul said, you cannot register johndoe.ie unless you are:
- a sole trader who trades under that name
- an artist or author
- have a registered business name for that name
As an individual you can apply for an IE domain under the discretionary category.
This is generally more awkward than when you have an RBN, but is not impossible. If you can "stake a claim" to an IE domain that the
IEDR view as legitimate, then they will grant it to you.
